Chins love loose timothy hay. It's very messy compared to hay cubes, but our chins love it so much that we feed it to them occaisionally as a treat in addition to their daily fresh hay cubes. Many people feed loose timothy hay as their chin's primary hay. There is no finer timothy hay than the timothy from American Pet Diner. It is grown in the high desert climate of Diamond Valley, Nevada, where the warm days and cool nights are ideal for producing the best possible timothy hay.
This 10 oz. "minibale" of first cut timothy hay is very high in fiber. (If you suffer from "hay fever" you will probably want to choose the second cut because it doesn't have the flower heads that the first cut does.)
Without going into much detail, timothy hay is a grass hay whereas alfalfa hay is legume hay. Alfalfa hay is higher in protein and minerals. Timothy hay is low in protein and calcuim and is high in carbohydrates. It is a great source of fiber.
