Wow, I never thought to review this wheel, and I've had 2 of them since 2001. My 2 chinchillas turned out to be brother-and-sister (instead of brothers!), so I needed to house them separately. I was determined to get them something 1) safe, and 2) comfortable. And to get 2 Leo Braun wheels (which I guess aren't even made any more) would have been too pricey. I was really happy to find Ed's wheel, as I feel it is the safest design, comparable to the Braun, and large enough for an adult chin. Nearly 9 years later, my powder puffs are still working out on them. My boy loves his and uses it regularly. My girl runs more sparingly but does enjoy short jaunts. Both like to rest on theirs, especially in warm weather; they like the cool metal.
The wheels look ok but not great, and they are a bit heavy. I just noticed that my boy has managed to break the cage wire where the hooks attach. His cage is a utilitarian 1" x 2" galvanized wire, nothing heavy duty, and this is from years of enthusiastic use. The bearings tend to squeak and vigorous running makes the cages rattle, but this is not a problem since they're not in anyone's bedroom.
My chins are 10 1/2 and 9 years old now, and still going strong. Exercise is vital to their health. It was a smart purchase.

I bought this wheel after becoming incredibly frustrated with a plastic wheel (or several) and was looking everywhere for something better. After hours of internet searching I found this. I've had it for about a week, and it is WONDERFUL. I had to take apart the whole bottom of the cage to get it in (its huge, and this was not an easy task with one of Martin's cages) but my chin was thrilled after the absence of his previous wheel, and it is so much quieter than the plastic one that I can barely tell when he's running. It is definitely worth the cost, it's incredibly well made and very safe. Thank you so much ChinWorld!

This has been a godsend after trying to find a wheel that could not hurt our chins! Had it for 6 years and it has been wonderful. Our three chins still fight over it!

IF you don't attach correctly, it is noisy, but after I studied it, it's semi quiet. Nobody sleeps in it, but do spend a lot of time in it!

Rivets will hurt if it's heavily used

My girl chin is not really a heavy user on the wheel, just jumping and hopping for like 5 seconds and she will stop. But my boy chin keeps running and running for more than a minute, and once we found his heel bleeding after the wheel. So if your chin is a marathon runner, better get another wheel without any rivets that will scratch his/her feet.

My girlfriend and I have owned our chin for about 5 months, and in that time we went through 3 of those junky plastic wheels. He didn't chew on them or anything, they simply wore out. This wheel is a solid product and one that you can trust will hold up. Our little Alfred loves his already!

My little Niko loves this wheel! It is very well made so I feel I made a wise purchase. The best part of all is that I used to have to vacuum every morning because my chin scattered hay, food, and bedding all over the place. Now, my floor stays mess free. Niko has focused his energy to working out on his new Ed Wheel! Thank you Chin World! A special thanks to Ingrid for giving me some special pointers over the phone. As a new chin owner, I really appreciated this! Pleasure to do business with.

 Beware the rivets inside!

This is a very sturdy, silent, quality wheel. HOWEVER, there are 2 rivets/screws which hold the outer metal circle together at the seams and the rivets jut out both inside and outside the wheel. After about a week of heavy use by my 2 chins, one of them cut his heel on one of the rivets and bleed quite a bit :( I fixed this problem by covering the offensive rivets with a thick tapered mound of epoxy and sanded off the excess (to prevent them from chewing it). Fix seems to be working thus far...
