To a chinchilla, hay is the “staff of life”. The fiber found in hay is essential to a chin’s health. Chins convert the cellulose in hay into carbohydrates. So, while it’s important to provide high quality pellets for necessary vitamins and minerals, the importance of feeding high quality hay is often overlooked. It has been proven that chinchillas can live almost indefinitely on a diet of good quality hay and water. Kleenmama’s Hayloft hay is excellent (and affordable) hay grown in the Pacific Northwest. Needless to say, as with any good hay, Kleenmama’s Hayloft hay is mold and spray free. Our chins love Kleenmama's Hayloft hay! This fine hay is available in two types: Timothy (2nd cut) which has long been a traditional favorite. It is mostly green with some brown stem. It is fairly short with very few stems and seedheads. Bluegrass which is soft, sweet-smelling and very green. It makes a great “variety” hay. While most chins seem to like it right away, for others, it’s a bit of an acquired taste. To insure you receive the freshest hay possible, orders for Kleenmama's Hayloft hay are shipped directly from Washington State. Note: 9lbs. is a lot of hay. Hay can be stored a long time provided you keep it in a cool dry place with plenty of ventilation.

This is very good hay. My chins really like the Bluegrass, and it always arrives so fresh that it lasts a long time. Be advised, though, that 9 lbs of hay translates to a 15 in cubical box that is completely packed with hay. I only have 2 chins, and even though I always give them a little more hay than they actually eat it takes about 4 or 5 months to go through all of it. Also, I've never tried the timothy that she sells because my chins love the bluegrass so much and my breeder swears the bluegrass is better, but I am confident that if I ever ordered some from her it would also be of the highest quality. You won't regret getting hay from Kleenmama.

This hay smells so good I almost wanted to eat it myself! It's so fresh and fragrant, and my chinchilla LOVES it---which is saying a lot because he's very, very picky about his hay. Try it--your little furry friend will love it.

I just wanted to say that this hay is VERY fresh. It came fresh in a box all its own and it looks like was just cut. I had been using Alfafa King for over a year, but after not being able to find the bulk packs anymore, I began looking for another hay. My chinchillas and Guinea Pig actually seem to like Kleenmama's better!!! They adjusted right away to the new hay and actually eat up everything in sight. This is a great product and i highly reccomend it to all small animal owners.
